A Novel Stepwise Degradation of Porphyrins. Structural Characterization of meso-Tetraphenylchlorophinato Nickel(II) and meso-Tetraphenylsecochlorinato Nickel(II) and the Origin of their Extremely Ruffled Conformations

The x-ray structure of meso-(tetraphenylsecochlorin)nickel was determined by single crystal x-ray diffraction analysis and its stepwise decarbonylation was studied. The structure of the resulting novel meso-(tetraphenylchlorophin)nickel was confirmed by single-crystal x-ray diffraction. The crystal structures revealed that both compounds exist in severely ruffled conformations.
