The 14-electron species RuL (I) (H2L = 5,10,15,20-tetramesitylporphyrin), prepared by vacuum pyrolysis of [RuL(MeCN)2] at 225 oC and 2 x 10-5 Torr, reacted with a wide variety of ligands to give a series of bis-ligated complexes. Exposure of I to N2 gave [RuL(N2)2], the 1st bis(dinitrogen) metalloporphyrin complex.
