The Base- catalysed Cyclisations of 1,19-Dideoxybiladienes-ac

Evidence from visible and N.M.R. spectra for the acidity of the C-10 protons in 1,19-dideoxybiladienes-ac (I) is presented. The cyclization of the 1,19-diunsubstituted 1,19-dideoxybiladienes-ac free bases to corroles is shown to proceed by a free-radical mechanism, and to differ from the mechanism of cyclization of the corresponding metal complexes.
