On April 18th, 2007 Dr David Dolphin was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award from LifeSciences British Columbia at the ninth annual BC Biotechnology Awards ceremony. These awards honor the outstanding achievements of local industry business leaders and researchers, and their world-class accomplishments. David Dolphin is a chemist who has been internationally recognized for many outstanding facets of his career. As a researcher, UBC Chemistry Professor Emeritus, Dr Dolphin pioneered the study of porphryins and their medicinal applications. By 1980, he had established himself as a world-leading scientist and over the past 40 years, he has published nearly 400 scientific papers and authored or edited 18 books. In addition to his scholarly and commercial accomplishments, Dr Dolphin has also been a champion of research at UBC and throughout British Columbia. Since 1985, he held the positions of Associate Dean of Science, Acting Dean of Science, and Acting Vice-President of Research at UBC. In 1995, he assumed the role of CEO of the BC Innovation Council to assist with leveraging of the province's capacity in technology research and innovation.
